Conscious

Conscious was written for the 2025 soundSCAPE festival, connecting with the ideas of consciousness and unconsciousness. Much of the piece has a continuous and rhythmic nature to it, just as the mind works continuously even if not working hard all the time. The one relief from this is in the middle section, where the idea of being unconscious is represented. The mind and body are still working, but not to our own perception. The repetitive rhythms and melodic figures in the piece mirror how my own mind sometimes fixates on such figures in my day-to-day life, whether they’re from other music or my own ideas.
